We’ve cared for thousands of youth across Alaska

The needs of youth with mental health or behavioral issues are similar, from urban areas to villages rural and remote. In the last ten years, we’ve hosted kids from more than 160 communities across Alaska, from Utqiaġvik (Pt. Barrow) in the north to Ketchikan in the south. We meet kids where they are, with the support they need, when they need it the most.

PHH helped me believe I was worthy of love and hope

My Mom moved me and my brother to Alaska for a change of scenery, and to turn my life around. But while Mom was working. I was on my own getting in trouble so many times that I was taken out of state to a treatment center. When I finished that treatment, I came back to Alaska and was placed in a PHH group home with teaching parents who ensured I had everything I needed.

My experience in a PHH home was very different from the treatment facility I stayed in, I felt cared for and protected. I had no interest in getting in trouble any longer, and for the first time, I felt like people believed in me, and accepted me for who I was.

A day in the life of a PHH resident,
It isn’t fun like being the President!
But who’s to blame,
It’s better than sitting at FYF,*
To hear me moan and complain,
I’m here to learn from my mistakes,
For the stuff I did in the past, for goodness’ sake!
Well, it’s really my fault for the choices I made,
I drank trouble like a cup of lemonade,
But now I’m how I used to be,
I made some choices that set me free,
The town isn’t going to remember me as a troublemaker,
But an honest, loyal kid who had an extreme makeover.
