Youth Referrals
Acceptance into the program is based on referral from the Regional Placement Committee, which is overseen by the State of Alaska Division of Health and Social Services. The youth who are referred are considered able to benefit from a less restrictive, family-style, therapeutic environment.
They have also demonstrated an inability to live with their natural parents or foster family. PHH’s community-based programs do not serve violent offenders or youth who may harm themselves or others. The average length of stay in the long-term programs is 12 months. Our 30-day Emergency Stabilization and Assessment Center is the only co-ed facility.
PHH is licensed for 25 teenagers between 12-18 years old who are in the custody of the State of Alaska. Most youth in PHH have been previously labeled severely emotionally disturbed. Many youth bear diagnoses of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Polysubstance abuse.
